DANCING FOR LIFE EDUCATION

Gloria Kirkaldie

I am honoured to be a judge for Dancing for Life Education.

My lifelong journey with dance began during my childhood in Perth. I credit my original ballet teacher who ignited my passion for stage performance initially on children’s television shows, dancing at community events and culminating as a soloist with the West Australian Ballet Company at the age of fifteen.  Over the next eight years, I toured throughout Western Australia and the Northern Territory.  Performing regularly in the Festival of Perth and Seasons of Ballet was a significant personal milestone.

Sharing my craft through teaching when I relocated to rural New Zealand drew enthusiastic students to train in woolsheds and at a military camp before moving on to Taupo where my creative license flourished in numerous Centre Stage productions.  My dancing for life education continues, returning to the ballet studio for weekly sessions with our troupe of “Silver Swans”, an international initiative to improve mobility, co-ordination and energy levels.

This event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate dance, movement and our community.  I applaud the participants, instructors, organisers and crew for their dedication and commitment to ensuring a memorable and entertaining evening.
