I’m proud to be sponsored and representing ‘Get Set Event Hire’ in this year’s Dancing for Life Education in Partnership with Tall Poppy Real Estate. In 2019 my boss Tracey took up the challenge while still organising the setting up of the event. It was amazing how it all came together and Taupo locals put on an outstanding show.

Currently the Board Chair at Tauhara Primary School and a Board Member at various Schools in Taupo over the years, I know first-hand the importance of what Life Education has and is doing for our young people and community.

Family and my Community are very precious to me, I like to be involved and have always put my hand up to volunteer with community based projects. I have loved raising my 5 children in Taupo and now have 5 gorgeous grandchildren living in Taupo.

I love dancing and love taking up new challenges that are outside my comfort zone, so when I was asked to be one of the dancers this year, I leaped at the chance (leaped and danced around the room) As daunting as it is and the time commitment that it will involve, I know it will all be so worth it! I’m ready to be involved and raise money for Life Education.

My motto is ‘you’re never too old to try something new’ I love to show young people, especially my grandchildren, that nothing is impossible no matter how old you are.

Gidday, I'm AJ Chapman and am seriously excited to be part of Dancing for Life Education in Partnership with Tall Poppy Real Estate. I work at More FM helping out behind the scenes, and after seeing our More FM Breakfast host Andrew Leiataua take to the stage in 2019 I knew that I had to get involved to show him how to actually dance! Pressure is on to do better than him but I know I'm going to put my best foot forward (figuratively and literally) to get the results. Over the years I've helped Life Education Trust at events around the region by looking after Harold, so to be involved with this fantastic charity again was a no-brainer!

  • Teachers: Julian & Connie

Julian Bishop started partner dancing at age 11. He is experienced in Latin and Argentine Tango among other forms of partner dancing. Julian has a real passion for teaching others. Today here in Taupo he runs classes in Basestep Modern Jive, Rock and Roll, and coaches couples for their Wedding Dance. Additionally, he conducts private classes and coaches performance teams as they prepare for upcoming events and public performances. He is excited to, once again, be coaching couples for the Dancing for Life Ed, in what should be an absolutely fantastic event.

Connie Takarangi started dancing from a young age, it was in her blood. At the age of five it was Ballet for a few years, then as a young adult she discovered Ballroom and Latin and never looked back. A whole new world opened up and with a passion for Latin she competed around New Zealand in Amateur comps, also gaining a Gold Star Latin grade in exams. The stage and the dance floor being her happy place, involved in shows, choreography, and demo dances. She spent time living in London, but still always found time to dance. Returning to Aotearoa Connie found other genres of dance: Belly dancing, Salsa, and more recently Rock n Roll and Basestep, joining Julian Bishop's Basestep Taupo dance studio about two years ago.
