Jacalyn Later

Hi my name is Jacalyn Later and I am really excited, scared, honoured, scared.. to be part of this awesome adventure! I’ve just reached an age where I’ve decided to step outside of my comfort zone and thanks to the generosity and support of Cargill Stent Clarke Law and Britten Draper Chartered Accountants I have been given the opportunity to completely jump outside of that zone!

My career in dancing started at the age of around three years old…. I lasted about two weeks doing ballet and got thrown out for mucking around… end of career! So maybe this is my chance to prove to the world that I can pay attention and learn a dance!

A bit about me – originally from the UK, I moved to New Zealand 21 years ago and I have lived in beautiful Taupo for 14 years now. Married to Mike, we have two fabulous sons who attend local schools. I am the General Manager at arc Counselling Services – we are an alcohol, drug and addictions counselling service who support our communities providing one on one counselling and group sessions for those who need our help. I am six papers away from completing my psychology degree (which I have been doing forever!) and am currently studying level 3 Te Reo Maori once a week.

I am ready to throw myself in boots and all to the amazing Dancing for Life Education Challenge and look forward to learning something new and making awesome friends along the way.

Kris Watson

Hello, my name is Kris. I moved to New Zealand from Sunderland in the UK 18 years ago and have been living in Taupō for the past 8 years. I currently run the STEAM Hub (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) at Tauhara College along side my colleague James Lamb.

I am a real family man, I have a son who is 14 and two step-sons who are 17 - my wonderful fiancé and I have been together coming up five years. I am super passionate about the work I do and I love the challenge of teaching these children new ways of learning. I am an avid football supporter and player, I currently play for the Taupō Lakers Football team.

I am pretty nervous about getting out and dancing in front of a crowd but I know it's for a great cause. I look forward to meeting all the other dancers and I hope I can do my dance partner Jackie and the Life Education Trust proud!

  • Teachers: Robin & Faye Moore

Faye and Robin Moore live in Kinloch and moved to the Taupō area four years ago to be closer to family. They teach Rock’n’Roll and have been dancing 50’s/60’s dance for over 30 years.

They didn't start R’n’R dancing until they were in their 40’s when this type of dance was very strong throughout NZ.

They have attended the NZ National Championships held at Labour weekend for the past 30 years as competitive dancers. When held in Christchurch they also organised the event with Robin taking the MC role for a number of events too! They have been dance instructors for much of the time they have been involved.

Faye and Robin say “Both our children were involved with dance when they were young and still dance today, now in their 40’s. Our son runs his own dance studio in Wellington with his dance partner.”

They are both looking forward to Dancing for Life Education in partnership with Tall Poppy Real Estate and are enjoying teaching their two couples - “Lots of laughs and fun already.”
